The Winchester Model 1876 was known as the Centennial Model. It was had a heavier frame than the Winchester Model 1873 and was chambered for big game hunting, dominating the market until the turn of the century. It reached the West after the heyday of the buffalo, but found extensive use by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1878, who utilized the carbine pattern.
